Governor’s Office press release: State seeks nominations for Land and Natural Resources Council

HONOLULU – Governor David Ige is recruiting skilled and dedicated individuals from Kaua’i and the Island of Hawai’i who wish to serve on the State Land and Natural Resources Council (BLNR).

The Kaua’i seat currently held by Tommy Oi for eight consecutive years will be vacant on April 25, 2022. The Hawai’i County seat currently held by Chris Yuen will be vacant on July 1, 2022. Candidates for these seats must be residents of Kaua’i County. and Hawai’i County. Applicants should apply online at http://boards.hawaii.gov/.

The Governor seeks candidates with balanced and inclusive perspectives, committed to the conservation, protection and sustainable use of Hawaii’s natural and cultural resources, who are under the public responsibility of the State Department of Lands and Natural Resources. (DLNR). Training in conservation and natural resources and / or real estate law and land transactions is particularly useful.

DLNR manages public lands under its jurisdiction, including forestry and wildlife, aquatic resources, state parks, ocean boating and recreation, and conservation and coastal lands, as well as commercial properties. and unencumbered land.

These are volunteer board positions that require preparation and attendance at BLNR meetings on O’ahu twice a month and more often if necessary.

Members of the BLNR are appointed and, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, appointed by the Governor for a term of four years. In bi-monthly meetings, the BLNR reviews and takes action on ministerial submissions, including land leases and conservation district use requests.

Candidates are required to provide publicly available financial information prior to their appointment to BLNR.
